We are accepting submissions from photographers and artists for 2024.

Over the last six years Jack The Lad has championed the work of many gay creative photographers and artists from talented amateurs to seasoned professionals, and as an independent, high quality queer quarterly that has steadfastly kept its distance from the more typical, celebrity stuffed, product pushing, advertising packed alternatives, our main objective remains the introduction to our global readership of a much deeper ‘pool of cool’, helping to amplify the voices of established and emerging queer talent through the magazines lovingly curated photographic galleries, artist spotlight features and in-depth interviews… and with 2021 fast approaching we would love to extend this opportunity to many more creative gay artists and photographers who would like to be a part of that journey going forward. So if you think your work will be a good fit for us then please don’t hesitate in making a submission.

Submissions should consist of approximately 16 to 20 images, all being of a high enough quality for reproduction. (We recommend uncompressed/JPG format, sRGB colour profile, at least 3500 pixels on the longest side and at a resolution of 300dpi). By making a submission you are stating that you have the relevant permissions / clearances granted for the images submitted. These images should also be previously unpublished in print, blog or social media form, and remain so for the three month shelf-life of the magazine from the date of publication. This exclusivity is important to us in building Jack The Lad’s reputation for premiering work that is both fresh, relevant and previously unseen. The strongest contenders to make it to publication are often submissions that offer plenty of variety within an overarching theme. This theme can remain loose but allow the submission to be regarded as a collection.

Whilst we aren’t exactly shy when it comes to the subject matter of the work we receive for consideration, as one of the few indie gay magazines that is also available to download through mainstream digital app stores, it is important to note that our priority is that the magazine gets seen, not censored, so if your chosen style is more flesh than fashion we ask that these submissions are easily recognised as homo-erotic rather than pornographic. As curators we understand that the male body as art can still be a contentious issue in some quarters, and whilst we encourage content that dares to be different, we are still required to acknowledge the terms and conditions set out by our digital publishing partners. More guidance on this can be given upon request.

Alongside the images, a short biography along with an introduction describing the submitted work should also be included, as well as a title for the collection and any other credits (model, make-up, etc.) For artists, this information should also include the name of each piece, the date it was produced, the tools used for its production (I.e. oils, acrylic, charcoal etc.) and the physical size, in cm, of the finished piece.

Successful submissions featured in the magazine will appear with a ‘Get Connected’ panel containing links to the photographer/artists own preferred social media and/or website/online store if they have one. These are converted into hot-links for the digital version of the magazine, where our readers can be instantly transported in order to discover further work from within the photographer/artists own domains.

We will confirm the receipt of all submissions and inform you of our decision*. Response times can vary and can take up to 4 weeks, so please remain patient during this review process.

Alongside the promotion of their work, photographers/artists who are successful in being published will receive a complimentary copy of the limited print edition as a thank-you for wanting to be a part of this unique, expanding creative queer collective. Submitted work will also be used for Jack The Lad promotional material across our own social media platforms.

Don’t let Instagram be the only place your work gets seen! Send your submission either directly or via WeTransfer to jacktheladmag@gmail.com

*Please note: Not all submissions will be accepted. Decisions are made based on content, quality and relevance to the Jack The Lad aesthetic. Any questions ahead of a submission can be made to jacktheladmag@gmail.com
